21-year-old heads to court in Florida for fatal accident

April 18, 2014

Drinking and driving is a dangerous combination for many, and it can result in serious injuries or death for other drivers or pedestrians. If you know someone who has been injured or killed in an accident caused by someone else, you know that proving their negligence is part of the challenge. That may not be difficult in this case. After a fatal accident in Florida, news about this 21-year-old's Twitter post became the object of scrutiny.Prior to getting into the car for a drive on Nov. 17, 2013, the 21-year-old had posted a Twitter status update that said she was "2 drunk 2 care." According to the news, her boyfriend has claimed that the post was meant for him, but it doesn't look good when she was then involved in a fatal drunk-driving accident. Reports claim that the woman did not have a license at the time of the crash. The wrong-way accident took place on the Sawgrass Expressway and resulted in two deaths. The 21-year-old faces two counts of vehicular homicide and manslaughter. She is also charged for driving without a license. Investigators reported that the 21-year-old had a BAC close to twice the legal limit. She allegedly also had marijuana in her blood according to the reports. With at least 10 reports from drivers who saw her on the road speeding at up to 100 mph, it's surprising that more people were not hurt. On top of this girl's trial, the families of the two victims are suing the Tijuana Taxi, which sold her alcohol, or at least gave her the alcohol, although she was a minor at the time. In this case, the fatal accident may have been able to have been prevented, but it seems that bad decisions all around resulted in two sad deaths.
