Truck loses control, slows traffic on I-275

The holiday week increased the amount of traffic on U.S. roadways. Americans all over the country packed up the car for a road trip with the family to relax over the holiday. But with the increase of cars on the road, it also increased the odds that a family's trip would include a car accident. One accident Friday morning closed down several lanes on Interstate 275. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the crash, but it did cause a lot of property damage. The accident occurred when a semitrailer lost control around 11 a.m. The truck experienced mechanical problems in its axles, which caused the truck driver to swerve into the lane next to him and crash into another car. The truck then swerved into the median and hit two light poles before finally coming to a stop. The driver of the other car was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries. The truck was carrying a load of sand that ended up spread across the northbound lanes of I-275. This clean-up caused backups on I-275 until early afternoon.Car accidents often result in serious injuries to one or both drivers and their passengers. The injuries can range from minor injuries, such as in this case, to serious injuries and even death. If the accident is due to the negligence of another party, the injured party may be entitled to compensation for the accident. This may include reimbursement for medical care, lost wages and property damage. Source: Tampa Bay Times, "Semitrailer truck crash snarls traffic on I-275 in Tampa," July 5, 2013
