1 dead in fatal Florida motorcycle crash

June 20, 2013

Gas prices seem to increase every day. This leads many Americans to look for alternative ways to get around that can save them money. One common alternative, especially in warm weather states, is a motorcycle. Even though motorcycles can be more economical, they can also be more dangerous. Motorcycles do not have the same safety features a car has, which can often lead to more serious and sometimes deadly motorcycle accidents. A Florida man lost his life on June 15 after a deadly motorcycle accident. He was out getting groceries when he ran into a car making a left turn into the Sawgrass Promenade shopping complex. The motorcyclist was headed south on South Military Trail when a driver made a left turn in front of him. He collided with the passenger side of the turning car. The motorcyclist was taken to the nearby Broward Health North. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed yet. Many drivers involved in accidents with motorcyclists claim to have not seen the motorcyclist. But motorcycles have the same rights on the road as any other vehicle. If another driver fails to see a motorcycle and causes an accident, that driver may have to compensate the motorcyclist for injuries sustained in the accident. Motorcycle accidents can leave the motorcyclist with serious and possibly permanent injuries. An accident can also lead to substantial damages to the motorcycle as well. Both the injuries and the property damage may be covered by compensation from the negligent driver. Source: Sun Sentinel, "Motorcyclist killed in Deerfield crash," Mike Clary, June 16, 2013
