Fatal car accident on Blanding Boulevard

April 19, 2013

The road can be a great way to get around. Everyone can use roads to travel, from passenger vehicles to semi trucks to garbage trucks. But the combination of vehicles on the road can lead to serious or even fatal car accidents.Car accidents can range from minor fender benders with no injuries to major accidents leaving those involved with serious, life-long injuries or even fatalities. In many cases, the accident is due to the negligence of one of the drivers. In these cases, the injured individual may be entitled to compensation for his or her injuries and damages. Unfortunately, some accidents can be fatal. This was the case for the car accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Blanding Boulevard. The accident occurred when a vehicle was traveling southbound on Blanding in the left lane when it hit a garbage truck. The garbage truck was entering the intersection at Burroughs Road and made a right turn onto Blanding. The truck then moved into the left lane to make a u-turn but the move was right in front of the passenger vehicle in the left lane. The passenger car in the left lane then rear ended the garbage truck. The crash occurred at about 1:00 that afternoon. The driver of the passenger car was airlifted from the scene, but died later from her injuries. The garbage truck driver and passenger were not injured in the accident. The Florida Highway Patrol are still investigating and trying to determine whether any charges should be filed. If a crash results in injuries or damage and it is due to the negligence of the other driver, the injured driver can generally seek compensation for his or her injuries. The award may include compensation for medical bills, lost wages, property damage or future care. In the case of a fatality, the surviving family members of the decease may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against any negligent parties who cause the accident that led to the death of their loved one.Source: First Coast News, "Car vs garbage truck leaves one person dead," April 9, 2013
